San Luis Obispo, CA – Wallace Group provided an array of civil engineering services to the 40,000 square foot Tolosa Winery, an established and sustainably farmed vineyard nestled in the coastal San Luis Obispo hills between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles. Wallace Group provided the planning and design of the winery’s on-site process wastewater treatment pond and effluent reclamation system. With central coast water resources being limited, Wallace Group developed a wastewater treatment system and water reuse program to allow Tolosa Winery to treat and store on-site and recycle treated wastewater for beneficial reuse for vineyard irrigation. As part of the design of wastewater facilities, we incorporated the Advanced Integrated Pond System (AIPS) design concept, a sustainable pond system which utilizes natural sunlight to supply the majority of aeration needed for biological oxidation, thus minimizing the amount of mechanical aeration required.
Tolosa Winery takes advantage of the most environmentally sustainable practices in growing grapes and creating distinctive wines. Wallace Group also provided assistance to Tolosa Winery in developing a 250 kw solar power system as an alternative power source in 2009. This system will provide the winery’s electrical energy needs for the next 25 years.
