Laguna County Sanitation District Recycled Water Station

Orcutt, CA – The Laguna County Sanitation District’s existing recycled water storage reservoirs are open-top, which allows re-contamination of tertiary effluent prior to delivery to area customers. Wallace Group was retained to design a 1.0 MG recycled water storage tank, 5.5 mgd clearwell/pumping station, and pump station building.

The new welded steel storage tank was designed to American Water Works Association (AWWA) D100-06 standards, including anchoring system to concrete ring foundation. The new tank will also be cathodically protected. The tank site required special design considerations for pre-loading and settlement of underlying soft soils prior to construction.

The District’s wastewater treatment plant will ultimately generate approximately 5.5 mgd of tertiary treated effluent water for reuse. The new recycled water booster station is designed to accommodate existing flows of 3.0 mgd, with space for a future pump to accommodate the anticipated ultimate flows.

The design also includes a new clearwell integral to the pumping station, with a new pre-engineered building to house electrical panels and controls. The design included developing process control instruments to integrate existing plant Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) functions and controls with the new facilities.

Construction began in April/May 2009, and was completed in the Fall of 2009. Wallace Group provided construction management services.
