San Luis Obispo, CA – Wallace Group was retained by the City of San Luis Obispo to develop Phases 3 and 4 of their Railroad Safety Trail. The intent of the Trail was to create the major north/south bicycle thoroughfare for the City serving all downtown neighborhoods and businesses, Cal Poly State University, four of the five area elementary schools, and all the Broad Street corridor neighborhoods and businesses. Wallace Group’s services included the preparation of the PS&E package for the construction of a 12-foot wide paved Class I bike path and appropriate facilities, as well as development of the interface of these facilities with public roads and other Class 2 bike facilities. Our Landscape Architecture Department provided project management for the Phase 4 project, as well as planting and hardscape design for both Phases 3 and 4. The work included path layout coordination, existing tree protection, signage, decorative safety fencing selection and detailing, linkages and entry plazas at specific street intersections, and team coordination on multiple bridges. Our Survey Department completed a topographic and right-of-way survey of a portion of California Boulevard for the Railroad Safety Path from Highway 101 to Cal Poly and also for the portion between Marsh Street and the San Luis Obispo Train Station.
