Meet Nate Whitacre June 26th, 2019

I was born and raised in Morro Bay and Atascadero, California. I graduated from Cal Poly SLO with degree in Environmental Engineering, and the next week flew to Newport, Rhode Island and commissioned as a Nuclear Submarine Officer three months later. After becoming an officer, I spent 2 years studying post graduate nuclear physics and operating a nuclear reactor on board the USS Daniel Webster (MTS 626), Charleston, South Carolina. Later I traveled to New London, Connecticut to learn how to drive a Submarine and play Golf (required for all Navy officers). My first submarine was the USS WYOMING (SSBN 742), where I spent 3 years driving a nuclear submarine around the Sargasso Sea and supervising a nuclear reactor. After leaving the service in 2017 I spent some time working at E & J Gallo winery as a Maintenance Team Lead. Daily operations consisted of supervising the operation’s 3 high efficiency bottling lines, and making sure the facility didn’t blow while processing 200 proof alcohol . . . on the plus side, we had company happy hour every Friday.

Somehow while all this was going on, I got married and had three kids. Definitely my favorite part of this story.
