Octagon Barn July 1st, 2015

San Luis Obispo County – As a direct connection to the agricultural past of San Luis Obispo County, the Octagon Barn is a vital landmark and its restoration is due for completion in 2016. When finished this location will serve as both a cultural destination and launch point for recreational activities. The Wallace Group has been involved in helping this iconic structure’s site become a community resource.

Wallace Group designed the left turn lane from Higuera Street onto the property. This required realignment, widening, drainage, Right of Way and coordination with Caltrans. Site Design included a grading plan for the parking lots and ADA paths of travel, and  preparation of a drainage report including a retention basin, storm water control plan, stormwater pollution prevention plan.

The structural restoration of the Octagon Barn has been a community effort that has involved tremendous local support since 1996. Hundreds of volunteers donated thousands of hours, including Wallace Group, and many local businesses have helped with materials and construction expertise. Today the century-old Octagon Barn structure has been saved from collapse.

The Octagon Barn Center will be a multi-use community asset that will host private and public events and serve as a new trailhead for the Bob Jones City-to-Sea Trail.
