Orcutt Community Park December 7th, 2012

Orcutt, CA – Orcutt Community Park, on over 26 acres, is the first major outdoor recreational amenity for the growing community of Orcutt in Santa Barbara County. Nestled into a natural canyon and straddling an existing creek, it offers impressive views of mountains and valleys from the vista point trail head near the Park entrance and along the access road as it descends 46 feet into the heart of the park.

The park design program, which includes a championship size soccer field and two Little League Baseball fields, provides much needed sports facilities, especially for these popular youth sports. Additional active play areas include a play lot with play structures for toddler age and grade school age children. Conveniently located next to this is the turfed open play field.

Passive leisure opportunities balance the active program areas. These include 1.4 miles of multi-purpose trails and a one-fifth mile of nature trails that link to the regional trails network, vista point, and rest areas for outdoor appreciation; as well as picnic areas for individuals, families, and large groups. To round out the recreational facilities there is a divided dog park to allow small breeds and large breeds to enjoy separate off-leash outdoor socialization.

The park design respects the natural creek within the site with much of the adjacent land preserved for natural open space. The landscape plants are predominately native plants that transition naturally to the undisturbed areas. Due to some unavoidable impacts there are mitigation areas that mimic the surrounding natural landscape.
