San Miguel Community Park March 16th, 2017

The city of San Miguel’s growth in recent years has led to a need for larger community gathering areas and recreational opportunities that their existing park could no longer support. Working together with the San Luis Obispo County Parks and Public Works Department, as well as Thoma Electric, Wallace Group’s diverse team of landscape architects, surveyors, civil and transportation engineers, collectively designed an expansion of the existing park facilities to meet the growing needs of the community. A street that once bisected the park was removed to improve safety and pedestrian connections, while also providing additional space to accommodate a multi-use sports field to host a variety different league divisions and age groups. Supplementary picnic tables and BBQ amenities, along with playground enhancements, facilitate larger family gathering areas as well. Aside from user activities, our firm’s shared commitment with the County of San Luis Obispo and the City of San Miguel to improve the environment and protect our natural resources is reflected in the implementation of LID bioretention facilities and water efficient landscaping, along with efforts to retain as many existing large trees as possible. Working amidst numerous constraints ranging from a tight budget, residences in close proximity, and lack of adequate storm drain facilities, our firm has provided a beautifully enhanced park that has already proven to be a valuable asset to the city’s residents.
